Odie Blackmon is a Grammy nominated songwriter who wrote the 2005 Country Music Association’s Single of the Year “I May Hate Myself In The Morning” recorded by Lee Ann Womack. He co-wrote George Strait’s 50th #1 hit “She’ll Leave You With A Smile”, Gary Allan’s #1 hit “Nothing On But The Radio”, as well as 16 other Gary Allan cuts and songs for Martina Mc Bride, American Idol’s Elliot Yamin, Bluegrass legend Del McCoury, Tracy Lawerce, Andy Griggs, Aarron Tippin, Jim Lauderdale, and Mel Gibson’s “We Were Soldiers” movie soundtrack
Blackmon was named Billboard Magazine’s # 1 Hot Country Songwriter for 2005. He has been the recipient of three ASCAP performance awards and three NSAI achievement awards.
He recently released the first songwriting instructional DVD of it’s kind, “The Craft Of Writing Hit Songs” and is “Lecturer of Music” at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. Odie is currently co-producing the artist Jeff Allen with guitarist/producer/songwriter Kenny Greenberg and Co-produced Jim Lauderdale’s “Country Super Hits” album.
Odie has worked with inner city school children serving as “artist in residence” for the America Scores program in St. Louis , Missouri, served three years as songwriting faculty for Vanderbilt Kennedy Center’s William’s Syndrome Camp, and is a Leadership Music Alumni. He earned his Bachelor of Arts In Mass Communication from Middle Tennessee State University with a focus on Recording Industry Management.
When he’s not writing songs, teaching, or producing, Odie enjoys “Square Foot Gardening”, learning about permaculture , and spending time with his family.
